Young Masked Wrestler Pt1

A sneak peek at a new piece and theme I am working with. Soon to be pasted street art around town.
This piece has a little ways to go before it's done and it also will have a companion piece that will be pasted with it.

Dodo stickers

Actually printed today and got a little over a hundred dodo stickers made today.  Still need to be cut to shape.
The pattern of them all together is very interesting I might have to use it as a background to something.
If you want one email me.

Making Mini Dodos

Today I am prepping to screen print Dodo stickers on Reflective Sheeting.
Take a peek

Hand cutting the sheeting to the correct size.

Here is my freshly made screen of Dodos waiting for me to get the material ready for printing.
I should end up with 400 stickers when it is all said and done.

If you want a Dodo sticker email me and I'll mail them to you.

Finally back

It has been a long while since I have had anything new to post.  My job started eating up too much of my personal time and was leading nowhere, so I no longer work there and I am now focusing on making things.

On top of all that I have also moved to a new studio with twice the space, I hope to continue the Dodos, while getting more elaborate pieces done and out and up around the city.  I have found quite a few places that are in need of some cheering up.  On a sad note since the Super Bowl was here this year the city went through and pretty much cleaned up most of what I had pasted, so starting from scratch again.

I am happy to have the time I need now and the new space and hope to move forward with some new work

thanks for looking at my page.

New Year

I have nothing of note to show lately.  But it is a New Year with a new direction. I hope to have some new things posted up in the next month. Hard to have a job and get anything done for yourself at times.

Winter

I haven't posted in a bit. The weather has been shitty and is only getting worse. I was going to use these winter months to focus my creative process a bit and have a bunch of new stuff for spring.  Though my friends in France  say that winter is the best time to go out because no one is out in the streets.  So we'll see.  I have new ideas and my images will change rapidly from what I have been doing.  So If you have passed by my spot and want more updates, sorry, they will probably be spars for a few months while get my act together.

Thanks

late night chimps

It finally stopped raining long enough for me to put these up downtown.  Just in time for Monday Night Football that's in town tomorrow.
I will try to get some daytime pics posted tomorrow.

monkey

Feeling like painting some monkeys lately. Here's the first one. Soon to be pasted.

realisation

The paper that I use may be to thick for wheat pasting. It is made for it though. Been too rainy to go out and get anything up.

making of a dodo

Freshly purchased roll of 54" paper.

I divide the paper up and cut it down to size using a t-square and exacto blade

repeat until I have 50 sheets

This was my first time using photo emulsion to make my screen. So I hand painted onto acetate my image to be burnt into the screen.
Image burnt into my nice new aluminum screen (no more cheap speedball crap screen). I chose this method instead of the stencil like the skull prints because I wanted to try a new technique and I wanted a semi permanent screen for printing. I spread the emulsion with a squeegee, hence the sloppiness, kinda wish I had bought a scoop coater, but in the end it all worked fine.

 Plain paper in.

 Dodo comes out

Repeat 50 times. Probably should invest in a drying rack but for now I just tape them to the wall to dry

Finally take my blade and kiss cut each one to shape and they are ready for pasting.

Thanks

To the person who re-pasted a dodo that was falling down after the heavy rain.

Thank You

Sneak Peek

This is an early sketch of a small piece of what will probably be my first large scale production for installation.  I have to say, I am liking it so far.  Still trying to select the location for it.

Process & Product 2

Working with ideas for new design and layout. Trying to let this evolve naturally. Develop my own language with the chosen imagery. This is all just hand painted with acrylics.
starting  to see where i can simplify the dodo's stencil.

Trying to use simple raw DYI method to achieve the out come and not get too complicated with it just yet

This is pretty much how I pictured the outcome but still feel that the top needs something. Overall pretty pleased, may try making some screen prints like this.

Process & Product

This was actually my first attempt at posters from about a 5 month ago before the Dodo's took my attention away. I started out the most basic of ways to do a screen print, using a stencil. I had never screen printed before but wanted a way to mass produce posters that wasn't Kinko's.

Original skull screen print kit:
one crappy 12" x 16" speedball screen,
2 hand cut stencils for a 2 part screen print.

Some skulls with only one step of the screen printing done.
(Will probably leave these this way, something interesting about them)

final skulls in white (about 75 made) and silver (about 25 made) cut out by hand with and utility knife.

These were my first attempt at screen printing. Unlike the Dodo's, the end result with the skulls was very raw and messy. I like the way the materials caused uncontrolled outcomes.
